Advanced Life Support

Today's clinical skills lesson was Advanced Life Support - or to the average mortal the bit when you stick paddles on the dead guy's chest and shock him back to life.

Not too complicated, however get a few things wrong and it could be curtains for you too.  I especially like warnings such as:

• Top, middle, bottom, me, machine
• Clear!
• Shit
• I'm calling this one. TOD: 13:30

Enough for the theory, let's get some practise in.  Just off to A&E, be right back...

Comedy

Comedy Nights at Huntley St.

Had a great time at the comedy.  They've had two good runs lately.  Some great comics from TV and Radio.  And I behaved myself by not heckling at any of the acts for weeks now.  My motto for comedy nights is simple: 'If you're shit, you'll get heckled'.

Alex Zane hosts and to be quite honest he's past his 'best before date', tough gig I think not, but still, keep to MTV mate and give someone else a job.

Mondays are shit

As above, but with more gusto.

Mondays are shit for many reasons including:

1. Ward rounds that appear empty of all participants, including consultants, SpRs, other students & patients
2. Too early
3. Monday!  Where did my weekend go
4. 4 more days till the weekend
5. Monday!

Medical dictionary

Great little find.  For use in applications that allow you to use a custom dictionary, such as MS Word etc.

Drug pronunciation

I hate drug names - their pronunciation really bugs me.  Here is a growing list of names and how they should be said:

• Clopidogrel : Cloppy-dog-roll (far better and more memorable)

Critical Care Day 2

A pretty good day, to start with because it was only a half-day.

First visit to ICU, very interesting.  Learning about all the machines and what they do.  May sound a bit simple, but his was my only second visit to an ICU ever.  Just shows you how much I have to learn!
